New details emerge in farm equipment accident that killed Houston County judge’s son | WDHN

HOUSTON COUNTY, Alabama (WDHN) – On Thursday, local emergency services responded to a 911 call that a man was trapped under a tractor on Forrester Road.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the body of 20-year-old Weston Lewis of Dothan.

Lewis is the son of longtime Houston County District Judge Benjamin Lewis.

“The entire courthouse is in shock,” said Houston County Clerk of Court Carla Woodall.

Carla Woodall said other judges represented Judge Benjamin Lewis during his grieving period.

Rescue workers confirmed that the victim’s body was not trapped under a tractor, but they believe he was working in a baler attached to the tractor at the time of his death.

Houston County Coroner Scott Byrd believes Lewis was working in the baler when the machine’s hydraulic doors closed around his chest, neck and shoulders, cutting off his air supply and preventing him from breathing.

At this time, the official cause of death has not been determined and the case remains under investigation by the Dothan Police Department’s Accident/Traffic Unit.

No funeral arrangements have been made yet.
