MPs: Drunk moped driver arrested after chase

KEELER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – Authorities say a man was arrested after he engaged in a drunken chase with police on a moped near Hartford.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office said around 4:45 p.m. Thursday that it received a report of an intoxicated man riding a moped at the intersection of County Road 687 and 72nd Avenue in Keeler Township, south of Hartford.

The caller reported that the man appeared to be heavily intoxicated and had fallen off his moped.

Officers found the man back on his moped and when they tried to stop him, the man drove away at speeds of up to 35 miles per hour, according to the sheriff’s office.

After several miles, the sheriff’s office said, the suspect, a 63-year-old Hartford man, turned into a private driveway and was arrested.

The case remains under investigation.
