Two people arrested after investigation into online fraud victims | Enquirer Journal

Both men were identified as suspects after investigators discovered that they were actively soliciting underage children for sexual acts through various social media and web-based platforms.

During the investigation, important electronic evidence was seized and is being analyzed by UCSO Crime Laboratory personnel trained in digital forensic investigation.

Both posted bail – $25,000 for Oakes and $20,000 for Espinoza – and were released.

Court dates have been set for both men – June 24 for Oakes and June 28 for Espinoza.

“Once again, the hard-working men and women of this agency have identified and arrested dangerous men who thought the crimes they committed in the dark would never come to light,” said Sheriff Eddie Cathey. “The safety of our children is of the utmost importance to my office and we will continue to use technology and teamwork to proactively prevent sex offenders from harming our children.”

Cathey thanked the NC State Bureau of Investigation and the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office for their vital assistance during the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges may be filed as the evidence seized continues to be evaluated.
