Berkeley police made several arrests early Sunday morning after gunshots and a fight were reported between Telegraph and Durant streets.

According to 911 calls reviewed by The Scanner, UC Berkeley’s ShotSpotter system recorded a single gunshot in the 2400 block of Durant Avenue around 1:50 a.m. Sunday.

No related injuries were reported.

Berkeley police responded quickly and arrested a person matching the description of the shooter. He was a white man in his 20s, 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a slim build and wearing a white shirt and jeans, officers reported.

According to 911 calls, officers arrested him after a short foot chase at the corner of Channing Way and Dana Street.

Around the same time, UC Berkeley police arrested two other people in Dana and Durant. According to preliminary information, the two may have been picking up items the man had discarded while fleeing from police.

BPD officers later discovered a possible firearm at the corner of Durant east of Dana Street and a shell casing at the corner of Telegraph and Durant, according to the dispatch center.



As of June 9, there had been 16 shootings in Berkeley, injuring six people.

Last year, there were eleven shootings at this time, in which three people were injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
