Police say Scotland Neck woman arrested after chase

SCOTLAND NECK, NC (WNCN) — Police say a woman was arrested Friday in Scotland Neck after leading police on a chase and driving without a license.

According to police, Sergeant Lawrence was on patrol when he attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding near Grasunan Road.

The driver, identified as Erica Hines of the Scotland Neck area, refused to stop and engaged in a brief chase with Sergeant Lawrence, Officer Phelps and Police Chief Parker, the press release said.

Police learned that Hines’ driver’s license was suspended and there was a Pitt County warrant for her arrest. Officers said they also learned that there was an unrestrained child in the passenger seat.

Hines was arrested and charged with attempted eluding, failure to obey lights and sirens, child abuse, driving without a license, resisting a public officer, failure to secure a child and speeding.

According to police, Hines was given a $1,000 secured bond on the Pitt County warrant and a $2,500 secured bond on the Halifax County warrant.
