Belarus suspends numerous agreements to avoid double taxation



MINSK, 1 June (BelTA) – Belarus will suspend the implementation of several international agreements on the avoidance of double taxation from 1 June 2024 to 31 December 2026. These are articles regulating the taxation of dividends, income from the disposal of property. These steps are stipulated in Council of Ministers Resolution No. 164 of 7 March 2024, the Belarusian Ministry of Taxes and Duties told BelTA.

In particular, Belarus has suspended the implementation of several provisions of international agreements with the United States, France, Denmark, Poland, Sweden, Belgium, Lithuania, Latvia, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Germany, the United Kingdom and some other countries. In total, 27 countries are on the list.

The reason for this decision was Western sanctions. The duration of this mutual measure can be shortened if the circumstances that caused it are eliminated or at the suggestion of the Ministry of Taxes and Duties.

On the website of the Ministry of Taxes and Duties you can find information on the application of the provisions of Resolution No. 164 in the taxation of dividends received by foreign organizations from Belarusian sources, in filling out tax returns (calculations) in terms of tax on income in the form of dividends, income from bonds, from the alienation of property, including income from the alienation of shares (participation) in the authorized capital (shares) of Belarusian organizations, as well as in offsetting in Belarus the taxes paid (withheld) abroad.
