Kansas man kills attacking dog, shoots dog owner

DOUGLAS COUNTY – Law enforcement is investigating after a woman was shot and a man was injured after a dog got loose and attacked the man and his dog as they were walking in the 700 block of Ash Street in Lawrence.

According to a statement from Lawrence police, the incident occurred around noon on Monday. The man stopped the attack by shooting and killing the attacking dog, but he also hit the dog’s owner in her thigh as she tried to restrain the dog.

The woman was taken to an area trauma center with suspected non-life-threatening injuries. The man was examined by doctors but refused further treatment on site. Police have not reported an arrest or further details, including the names of those involved.
