Two people arrested, one wanted in Houston shooting | Texas

HOUSTON, Texas — Two suspects have been apprehended and another is wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred at 9522 Madera Road on the evening of April 16.

Anthony L. Merritt, 19, faces three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct in the 185th State District Court. A second suspect, aged 16, was referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation Authorities on similar charges. The minor suspect’s mugshot and booking photos cannot be released.

Police are still searching for a third suspect, Kiersten Chanel Lathan, 19, who is accused of assaulting a family member in Harris County Criminal Court No. 3. Lathan is not currently in custody.

Officers from the Houston Police Department’s (HPD) Major Assault and Domestic Violence Division responded to the shooting call and discovered a 40-year-old male victim, who was transported to a hospital local in a stable state.

The initial investigation revealed that the shooting occurred following a physical altercation between an uninjured man and his girlfriend. Two suspects accompanying the girlfriend fired shots, one of which hit the victim. The suspects then fled the scene in a black four-door sedan.

Further investigation identified Merritt, Lathan and the young man as suspects. Merritt was arrested on April 24 and the juvenile suspect was taken into custody on April 25, both without incident.

Police are urging anyone with information on the whereabouts of Kiersten Chanel Lathan to contact HPD’s Major Assault and Domestic Violence Division at 713-308-8800.
