Nicki Minaj has reportedly been released after being arrested in Amsterdam for drug abuse

According to reports from several media outlets, Nicki Minaj has apparently been released after being arrested in Amsterdam on Saturday. Footage from an Instagram Live by Minaj showed her exchange with a police officer. The video was then recorded and posted on X by various fan accounts.

According to multiple reports, Minaj’s release was apparently confirmed by Amsterdam police in a post on the agency’s X-account in Dutch, although her name was not mentioned. In English, it read: “We have just released a 41-year-old American woman we arrested this afternoon at Schiphol on suspicion of exporting soft drugs. After consultation with the public prosecutor’s office, the suspect has been fined and can continue her journey.”

The 12-time Grammy nominee was apparently arrested after a three-minute-long video showed the rapper discussing her alleged arrest with an Amsterdam police officer. When she asked why she was being arrested, the police officer said the star was being arrested “because you are carrying drugs.”

The “Anaconda” rapper responded, “I don’t have any drugs on me.” Minaj continued the conversation by telling the officer, “I need a lawyer” and “No, I need a lawyer now,” as the officer told her to get in a car. The officer then appeared to say, “We’re taking (you) to the next show.” Minaj responded, saying, “You talking about my show? What about that?”, according to an Instagram Live apparently posted by the rapper’s page.

USA TODAY has reached out to Minaj’s representatives. In a statement emailed to USA TODAY, Amsterdam police said, “We cannot provide information on anyone over the age of 18. This is due to data protection laws. Therefore, we cannot confirm anything.”

According to her official tour website, Minaj was scheduled to perform in Manchester, England on Saturday, but due to the incident, the performance has now reportedly been postponed.

Arrest follows X-posts claiming Amsterdam airport security tried to “sabotage” her world tour

The star had already spoken out on Saturday before her alleged arrest after claiming that officials at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport had tried to “sabotage” her tour.

In a long series of X-posts, she took aim at the airport, saying, “They tried everything to stop this tour.” She added, “They took my luggage and when I asked where it was they said it was on the plane. That can’t be, I just got here.” Minaj added, “That’s how they place things on your luggage.”

The rap superstar is currently on her Pink Friday 2 World Tour and was en route to Manchester, her next tour stop, when the incident occurred.

She posted a nearly one-minute video of herself discussing the baggage issue with an airport official, who appeared to be an airport security officer, who said they were trying to “open” her bags. Minaj later posted that “they said they found weed.” As she noted in a previous X-post, marijuana is legal in Amsterdam.

Minaj explained that the alleged baggage issue occurs because “they” try to get her to book a new plane “every time,” adding that she “fired a manager who I found out was adding $30-50,000 to my jet for years and pocketing the whole thing.” Minaj also said that she recently fired a tour manager for the same reason, going on to say, “Their goal is to make me late and pocket $40,000.”

“They get paid a lot of money for trying to sabotage my tour because soooooo many people are mad that it’s so successful and they can’t stand with me. They got caught stealing money from my trips/jets. Got fired. Got mad. Etc,” Minaj wrote on X.

Minaj also reposted a fan’s post on X that suggested the bag searches were being done to further sabotage the star.

“The likelihood of this happening before an international flight right after Nicki’s announcement for the second leg of her US tour is questionable. The odds are really high here. There is not a single person who can convince me otherwise. The proof is in the second baggage check,” the user said.

In addition to this dispute with airport officials, Minaj is also known for her public feuds with other rappers, including Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B. Earlier this year, she attacked Megan Thee Stallion in a series of tweets and a diss track called “Big Foot.”

“When you lie, you swear by your dead mother,” Minaj said in one sentence. “Because she was lying on your dead mommy.”

She also told Megan Thee Stallion she “fell off, I said, ‘Get back on your good foot,'” referring to the shooting of her Houston-born rival by Canadian rapper Tory Lanez in 2020. Later in the track, Minaj raps “like a bodybuilder, I keep raising the bar,” before rhyming and asking, “You get shot, with no scar?”
