A Millbrae man was arrested Sunday morning on suspicion of hit-and-run following a traffic crash in Millbrae that left a woman hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said.

At around 5:40 a.m. Sunday, the sheriff’s office received a report of a crash involving a car and a pedestrian near the intersection of Millbrae Avenue and El Camino Real, the sheriff’s office said.

A witness reportedly reported that the vehicle struck the pedestrian and then fled, according to the sheriff’s office. Officers were on the scene and assisted the pedestrian until paramedics arrived, the sheriff’s office said.

Officers identified a suspect, a 32-year-old Millbrae man, and arrested him at his home, the sheriff’s office said. The suspect was booked into Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of hit-and-run causing serious injury, the sheriff’s office said.

The intersection was closed for several hours while the Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team investigated the crash. It reopened at 11 a.m.
