Columbus police are sharing details about Thursday’s “critical officer-involved incident.”

Columbus police leaders are expected to provide an update on Thursday’s shooting that left a man dead in Canal Winchester.

The Ohio Attorney General’s Office initially described the incident around 6 a.m. Thursday as a “critical officer-involved incident.” Then, about an hour later, Columbus police said 21-year-old Rafael Warfield died from a self-inflicted gunshot.

Later Thursday morning, Columbus police retracted that statement, saying it was “provided in a hurry and inadvertently.”

Police were called to Georges Creek Drive in Canal Winchester around 4 a.m. Thursday. There, according to the CPD’s initial statement, Warfield allegedly threatened to “take the life of himself and those who were also in the house.”

At 2:30 p.m. Friday, officials are expected to provide more clarity about the incident and possibly address the three shootings between civilians and police officers in recent days.

On Saturday, police responded to a domestic violence call and shot and killed a suspect who fired at arriving officers.

And on Sunday, a man who initially opened fire at an Amazon fulfillment center was later shot and killed by police after he, too, shot at them.
