Beloit police officer fatally shoots suspect after stabbing | Top stories

BELOIT, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Justice Criminal Investigation Division is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left one person dead Thursday afternoon.

At 3:26 p.m., Beloit officers responded to a home near the 2000 block of Frederick St. and found a woman who had been stabbed.

According to a statement, officers encountered a person who was in possession of an edged weapon and was making violent threats.

One officer initially used a less-lethal option, then a second officer fired his weapon, striking the suspect.

Life-saving measures were carried out, but the suspect died at the scene.

The woman was taken to a local hospital and trauma center where she remains stable.

One officer was treated for minor injuries.

During the investigation, officers found no one in the house and seized the edged weapons.

According to the DCI, both officers are on administrative leave.

Body cameras were being worn at the time of the incident.

At this time, the DCI continues to review evidence and will turn over reports to the Rock County District Attorney once the investigation is complete.
