A woman in the Bronx was the victim of a horrific attack in the early hours of May 1st, allegedly carried out by a man named Kashaan Parks. According to a report in the New York PostKashaan is accused of tying the victim’s neck with a belt, dragging her unconscious and then raping her.

Beverly Parks, Kashaan’s mother, has come forward and claimed she spent the entire night trying to convince her son to turn himself in to authorities after learning about the incident from her daughter-in-law. In an interview with the New York PostAn exhausted Beverly admitted to being the one who reported her son, explaining: “I’m his mother who reported him. I’m the one who made his arrest possible.”

Who is Kashaan Parks?

Beverly Parks told the publication that Kashaan, 39, is an unemployed, married father of two who has recently been struggling with alcohol and drug abuse problems, made worse by the death of his father last month.

Kashaan and his family lived in North Carolina but recently moved to New York.

He was arrested Saturday and now faces charges including first-degree rape, assault, strangulation, sexual abuse, public indecency and harassment. Police say surveillance footage shows a masked attacker, allegedly Kashaan, approaching the victim, throwing a belt around her neck and dragging her between parked cars to commit the crime.

According to the report, this is not Kashaan’s first brush with the law; He has been publicly arrested twice, including for an alleged attack on a woman in the Bronx and for fare evasion on an MTA bus.

Beverly Parks expressed hope for her son’s redemption but acknowledged the seriousness of his crime. “I am a woman and I am sorry that this happened to this person. Whatever she has to live with, I’m going to have to think about it for the rest of my life,” she told the publication.
