Man with allegedly stolen vehicle arrested with help from Shreveport K9 Unit

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – Shreveport police went on a chase after attempting to stop a vehicle that was allegedly stolen from another city.

At approximately 3 a.m. on May 10, Shreveport Police Department (SPD) attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a reported vehicle that had been stolen from another city.

Legene Metcaft, 36, reportedly attempted to evade capture but crashed the stolen vehicle and then attempted to flee on foot. SPD K-9 Officer Edy was deployed to assist in the pursuit.

“Thanks to the exceptional teamwork between K-9 Edy and SPD officers, the suspect was apprehended quickly and without further incident,” SPD said.

After the arrest, a hidden firearm was discovered during a search, which, according to the SPD, illustrates the seriousness of the situation.

Metcalf was treated for injuries sustained during capture.

Metcalf faces several charges including:

  • Aggravated flight
  • Illegal possession of stolen property
  • Felon in possession of a firearm
  • Domestic violence battery
