Rishabh Pant went on a ‘khichdi diet’ after a car accident, reveals nutritionist: ‘He couldn’t walk even for a minute’ | Food-Wine News

Wicketkeeper-Batter and T20 World Cup winner Rishabh Pants has fully recovered from an unfortunate car accident in December 2022 and is going full throttle on the field. But behind this successful comeback is his sheer determination to overcome this phase of life with a dedicated fitness regime and a strict diet, which according to nutritionist Shweta Shah also included Khichdi.

“I have known Rishabh Pant since before his accident. I knew his lifestyle, his diet and everything else. But 5-6 months after the accident, he told me in a video call that he could not eat anything. He told me that he could not run even for a minute. So you can very well imagine the mental state of an athlete who cannot run and has no energy,” Shah told yoga trainer Shlloka.

Shah admitted that Rishabh Pant “trusted her blindly” and said he “had to stop all medications”. “I started a Subscribe to Diet with it, I believe in it. Trust me. You will get all the nutrients. In Ayurveda, khichdi is a superfood for healing the body. While people associate khichdi with sick or bedridden people, it is recommended even for muscular and healthy people. I bet with a khichdi diet, I can give you six pack abs. It is a typical high-quality diet for a vegetarian,” said Shah.

In addition, the Subscribe tomade from rice and dal, together have all the essential amino acids, making it a “first-class protein for vegetarians,” said Shah, “With a Subscribe to diet, 50 percent of his problems were solved and he began to eat normal food.”

Another problem was inflammation. “So we started with different kinds of decoctions like lemon juice, black raisins, black pepper and gond katira for bone recovery. They helped fight his inflammation in 15 to 20 days,” Shah said.

Festive offer

The goal was to regain strength and energy. “We made plans for him. He was fed his usual food again. So now he’s back. He’s losing weight and size.”

Shah also shared that following a Subscribe to diet, one should “choose easily digestible rice like Kolam or Sona Masoori. Not brown or basmati rice, which is heavy and processed.”

We took this example and spoke to an expert to find out what makes Khichdi a must-have meal.

Khichdi, a traditional Indian dish made of rice and lentils, offers a number of health benefits that can prove particularly beneficial in treating various medical conditions. “After a surgery, the body requires gentle, easily digestible food. Khichdi fulfills this requirement perfectly as it provides essential nutrients without putting a strain on the digestive system,” said Fouziya Ansari, nutritionist at Apollo Spectra Hospital in Mumbai.

Khichdi is also filling due to its high fiber and protein content, which can help control appetite and prevent overeating. “It offers a balanced mix of nutrients, making it a great option for anyone who wants to effectively manage their weight without compromising on nutrition,” said Ansari, adding that one can add healing spices and herbs to aid recovery.

Khichdi also has anti-inflammatory properties. “The addition of turmeric and ginger can reduce inflammation, making khichdi a soothing option for conditions like arthritis or other inflammatory diseases,” said Ansari.
