Coroner identifies teenager shot after suspected drug deal in Southeast

SAN ANTONIOTO UPDATE: The Bexar County coroner has determined the identity of a teenager who was shot during an alleged drug deal in southeast San Antonio.

According to authorities, 17-year-old Geoffrey Roland Shafer died of a gunshot wound. His death was ruled a homicide.

ORIGINAL STORY: San Antonio police are searching for a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting Friday night.

The shooting occurred around 7 p.m. in the backyard of a home in the 900 block of East Dullnig Court. Officials believe the shooting was the result of a drug deal that ended with guns drawn and shots fired.

Authorities initially said on Friday that a man in his twenties had been shot in the backyard. The victim, who was identified by police on Saturday as a 17-year-old, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The teenager suffered numerous gunshot wounds, police said on Saturday morning.

A person who was accompanying the victim and an unknown suspect fled the scene after the shooting, police said Friday. The suspect left the backyard in a black vehicle.

San Antonio police said Friday that their officers eventually arrested the person who was accompanying the victim. Authorities did not find a firearm on the victim, but the person arrested did possess a firearm.

Officials said they did not know if those involved lived near the shooting.

The SAPD homicide squad and forensic investigators have begun their investigations, which are still ongoing.
