Two people are dead after a fatal car crash in Phoenix

PHOENIX – Two women were killed after a vehicle struck a metal power pole Friday morning.

At 6 a.m., Phoenix police responded to a car crash near 35th and Sweetwater Avenue. Officers found a woman on fire outside the car. Phoenix Fire Department personnel extinguished the fire and provided medical attention to the woman. The victim was taken to a hospital but did not survive his injuries. A second woman was found dead in the passenger seat.

According to a press release, initial information indicates that the driver was traveling north on 35th Avenue at a high rate of speed when she lost control of her vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and strike a large metal utility pole.

Police did not release the names of the victims.

The case is the subject of ongoing investigations.
