Call on the UN to suspend Israel! – CODEPINK

When Netanyahu spoke to Congress on July 24, U.S. lawmakers rose to their feet with thunderous applause. In addition to the countless crimes Netanyahu has committed in recent months, just last week the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that Israel’s occupation of Palestine was illegal under international law. Our lawmakers have more than failed us, and we know that the only way we can hold this insane genocidal leader accountable is to take action ourselves.

In 1974, after relentless international pressure, the UN General Assembly suspended South Africa from participating in its work, despite objections from the US and other Western countries. This international isolation violently ended apartheid in South Africa. We can pressure them to do the same for Palestine. The groundwork for this has already been laid, as the ICJ has issued a ruling on Israel’s illegal settlements in Palestine. This means that even if the ICJ’s ruling on Israel is “non-binding,” the UN General Assembly can vote to suspend Israel and send the genocidal state into international isolation. The US and other imperialist countries have no veto power in this vote. This is a victory that we can win and use to advance our liberation movement!

Sign the petition below to call on UN General Assembly member states to suspend Israel! We will deliver the petition to various UN offices in New York!

Member State of the United Nations,

We, the undersigned, call on your country to seek a resolution against Israel in the United Nations General Assembly similar to that of Bouteflika ruling against apartheid in South Africa in 1974.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has ruled that Israel’s occupation of Palestine and expansion of settlements violate international law. The court’s president added that Israel’s laws in occupied Palestine “amount to the crime of apartheid.” As a member state of the United Nations, it is your responsibility to address such reprehensible violations of international law, following the UN’s procedures against the apartheid regime in South Africa.

In 1974, the UN General Assembly suspended South Africa from participating in its work – a move that forcibly abolished the country’s apartheid system. The groundwork for this has already been laid, as the ICJ issued a ruling on Israel’s illegal settlements in Palestine. This means that the UN General Assembly can vote to suspend Israel and force the apartheid state to comply with international law. The US and other countries have no veto power in this vote.

We believe that this course is as necessary as it was in 1974 – if not more so. It is absolutely unacceptable that Israel should continue to allow such tragedies to occur. We urge you to do the right thing. This step would go down in history.

Until liberation
