Woman flown out by helicopter, man still missing after boating accident in Sodus Bay: Search to resume at 7 a.m.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a boating accident in Sodus Bay. Just before 8 p.m. on Sunday, a cigar boat crashed, throwing both the boat operator and a passenger into the water. The woman was brought to shore by nearby boaters and flown by helicopter to Strong Memorial Hospital.

The search for the missing male pilot, who has not yet been found, involved the Marine Patrol and the sheriff’s dive team. The search will continue today, officials said. Several agencies, including the New York State Police flight unit and the U.S. Coast Guard, are assisting with the relief effort.

Other responding firefighters included Sodus Point, Alton and North Rose fire departments, Eastern Wayne and Silver Waters EMS, Wayne County EMS and Mercy Flight.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities attempt to determine the cause of the incident.
