CHP: Man dead after accident near Hanford | YourCentralValley.com

HANFORD, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man was killed in an accident near Hanford early Thursday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.

According to police, a 25-year-old man was driving south on 6th Avenue around 5 a.m. Before crossing Highway 198, he stopped his Chevrolet Silverado at a stop sign. As he crossed the intersection, he collided with a silver Honda Accord traveling east.

Police said the force of the impact caused the Honda to overturn. The car rolled over several times before coming to a stop in a dirt parking lot on the other side of the highway. The 21-year-old driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to authorities, the force of the impact also caused the pickup truck to roll over. As the pickup truck rolled over, it entered an irrigation canal, where it came to rest partially submerged on its right passenger side. The driver of the Chevrolet suffered minor injuries and was taken to Kaweah Health Medical Center for treatment.

Officials have not yet revealed the identity of the Honda driver.

Officials say neither alcohol nor drugs appear to have played a role in the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
