“A 31-year-old New Bedford man was found guilty by a jury of peers last week of raping a 3-year-old girl and sentenced to 20 to 25 years in prison, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.

Allen Beckwith was found guilty of aggravated rape of a child, domestic violence and assault, and witness intimidation after a jury trial in Fall River Superior Court.

During the trial, it was proven that on November 27, 2021, the rape victim’s mother caught her boyfriend (the defendant) performing oral sex on the young girl in a shared apartment in New Bedford. When asked what happened, the toddler immediately told her mother what the defendant had done to her.

The mother attempted to call 911, but was attacked by the defendant, who attempted to take the phone away from her.

The trial was conducted by Assistant District Attorneys Matthew Lopes and Jennifer Schmidt. The prison sentence was imposed by Judge Susan Sullivan.

“The defendant acted despicably by raping a defenseless little girl. When he committed this heinous act, he was on probation for setting fire to industrial facilities in Barnstable. This defendant is clearly a danger to the community and appears to be irredeemable. The defendant continued to threaten the victim and her mother even after the court convicted him,” said District Attorney Quinn.” – Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
