Bridgman, South Haven and New Buffalo receive grants for electric vehicle charging

Bridgman, New Buffalo and South Haven have all received grants to install electric vehicle charging stations in their communities.

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy announced this week that more than $900,000 in electric vehicle charging station grants will be awarded to 17 communities to continue the development of the multi-state Lake Michigan Loop initiative. This is a multi-state plan to build electric vehicle infrastructure along Lake Michigan to support coastal tourism.

The Town of Bridgman will receive $135,000 for two fast chargers, New Buffalo will receive $20,000 for two Level 2 chargers and South Haven will receive more than $260,000 for four fast chargers and one Level 2 charger. The grants all come with local matches that vary by community.

Phil Roos, EGLE director, said the Lake Michigan Circuit initiative is “an opportunity to bring the best new road trip to electric vehicle owners across the country.” Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana are also part of the initiative.
