Ascension Health System Provides Update on Cyberattack Investigation | News

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) – Ascension Healthcare System will temporarily pause some testing and procedures while it investigates a cybersecurity incident.

As we reported on Thursday morning, a A press release from Ascension said unusual activity was detected on select technology network systems on Wednesday.

Officials now say they have determined it was a cybersecurity incident.

“We work around the clock with internal and external consultants to investigate, contain and restore our systems following a thorough validation and review process. Our investigation and recovery work will take some time, and we do not have a timeline for completion,” says an Ascension spokesperson.

Systems that are currently unavailable include the MyChart electronic health record system, some telephone systems, and various systems used to order certain tests, procedures, and medications.

However, out of an abundance of caution, some non-urgent elective procedures, tests and appointments have been temporarily suspended while officials work to bring systems back online.

Ascension says its teams work directly with any patient whose appointment or procedure needs to be rescheduled.

Due to operational disruptions, several hospitals are currently relying on emergency services to ensure emergencies are treated promptly. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911. Your local emergency medical services provider will then transport you to the nearest hospital emergency room.
