NRC suspends train services in Delta and Kogi

Dissatisfied with the condition of the line from Ujevwu in Delta State to Itakpe in Kogi State, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) on Friday announced the suspension of operations between the two states.

The reason for the closure, which came into force on Friday, was reportedly an obstruction on the route.

This is according to a communication entitled “Public Notice” to clients, which states that the agency expects to resume operations on Monday, July 8, 2024.

“This is to officially inform our valued passengers that the Warri-Itakpe train will not run today, Friday, July 5, 2024 due to disruption on our route.

“We will resume regular train services from Monday, July 8, 2024. Passengers who have already booked their tickets online will receive a refund.”

“We deeply regret any inconvenience. Thank you very much,” the statement continued.

While some members of the public said that a train derailed at around 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, others said that the train was merely swaying along its tracks.
