Catawba County man arrested after reported standoff with police

Ian Maurice McMahon, 30, of Conover, was arrested by Catawba County Sheriff’s officers on Friday (July 12) on charges of two counts of possession of a weapon by a felon and probation violation, as well as one count of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals responded to a trailer on Guy Baker Road around 5 a.m. Friday to serve arrest warrants for Ian Maurice McMahon. McMahon was in the trailer with a woman. They refused to leave the trailer.

The sheriff’s office dispatched the STAR (Special Tactics and Response) team to the home. After more than three hours, a woman exited the home. McMahon turned herself in shortly thereafter. The woman was released after McMahon was taken into custody.

One of the warrants was related to McMahon’s social media posts. In one of these posts, he is said to have stated: “Those responsible must be replaced by force, so this will probably not be achieved without bloodshed.”

McMahon was held in the Catawba County Detention Center on $30,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday (July 15).
