Death of a 9-month-old child is being investigated

Catawba County Sheriff’s officials are investigating the death of a toddler on Tanglewood Drive.

Just before 5 a.m. this morning (July 12), officers responded to a report of a suspicious person near Section House Road between Conover and Hickory. Officers encountered an adult female who appeared disoriented. Officers followed the woman to her residence on Tanglewood Drive. There they found the woman’s nine-month-old daughter dead inside the home.

The Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division has opened an investigation into the child’s death. Felony murder is suspected. Sheriff’s investigators are consulting with the District Attorney’s Office and awaiting the results of the autopsy.

The adult woman was taken to a local hospital.
