St. Paul man charged after shooting

A man from St. Paul, Virginia, is facing sex crimes following an investigation into a shooting on Thursday.

Loren Frost, 45, of St. Paul was charged with two counts of sexual abuse of a minor, two counts of sodomy and aggravated sexual assault, according to a statement from Wise County Sheriff Grant Kilgore and Wise County and Norton District Attorney Brett Hall.

According to the report, Wise and Dickenson County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 5700 block of Creek Hill Road in St. Paul on July 11 on a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers confirmed that a shooting had occurred.

A person at the center of a child sex crimes investigation entered a residence where he had been temporarily barred from entering. A family member attempted to escort him from the property, and an altercation ensued, the statement said. During that altercation, two shots were fired and one of the people involved was taken away by helicopter for treatment of serious injuries.

Investigators examined the crime scene and interviewed witnesses. At the end of the interview, Sheriff Grant Kilgore and District Attorney Brett Hall agreed that no charges should be filed in the shooting at this time. However, the investigation is still ongoing.
