Were members of the royal family present at the incident in the palace?

A person was arrested this week after allegedly throwing Molotov cocktails at the Royal Palace in Oslo. According to VG, a man from Belarus threw two Molotov cocktails at the royal residence.

A video shared by VG TV showed a burning door in the palace on July 8. “The man had several bottles of liquid with him when he was arrested,” Anders Rønning, head of operations for Oslo police, told NRK, according to News in English. “These are now being investigated by the police’s bomb squad.”

Anders also noted that “the police were in the area so they were able to arrest him immediately when he (the attacker) threw the second firebomb.”

A spokesman for the Norwegian royal court confirmed to Hello! The King Harald V from Norway, Queen Sonja and the Crown Prince family were not present in the Royal Palace at the time of the incident. “We are grateful that no one was injured and only minor damage was caused to the building,” said the spokesman Hello!.

The Royal Palace in Oslo is described as “one of the country’s most important buildings and a concrete symbol of the course of Norwegian history since 1814”. The palace, which is open to the public during the summer season, is the place where “the daily work of the monarchy is done” and where Their Majesties live.
