Spain’s Álvaro Morata injured in incident after European Championship match against France

Spain have reached the final of UEFA Euro 2024, but a bizarre post-match incident could impact whether Álvaro Morata can play.

The striker was hit by a stumbling security guard who had rushed over to stop a fan from taking selfies as Spain did a lap of honour following their 2-1 victory over France.

Morata had no idea what was coming when the security guard slammed into him while stopping and turning. What made the situation even stranger was that stewards at the Allianz Arena had already arrested the young selfie-taker.

The Atletico Madrid striker, who started all but one of Spain’s tournament matches, immediately felt his right knee, winced and then limped away from the fray. The security guard leaned over to check on the Spanish captain, who seemed to simply want to limp away from the whole situation.
