Men disguised as Nihang Sikhs attack Shiv Sena leaders with swords in front of everyone in Ludhiana; condition critical | Chandigarh News

A group of men disguised as Nihang Sikhs attacked the leader of the Shiv Sena (Punjab), Sandeep Thapar alias Gora, with swords near the Civil Hospital in Ludhiana on Friday and seriously injured him.

Shiv Sena (Punjab) leader Rajiv Tandon said that “a group of Nihang Sikhs attacked Thapar with swords” and he was taken to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in a serious condition.

“Thapar was returning from the event marking the death anniversary of a local BJP politician when a group of Nihangs surrounded his motorcycle and attacked him with swords. The accused fled on his motorcycle. He started bleeding profusely from his head and both arms,” Tandon said.

The CCTV footage of the incident showed Thapar riding a two-wheeler with a Punjab policeman riding pillion. Soon after, three Nihang Sikhs armed with swords and sticks surrounded his vehicle in full view of everyone amidst heavy traffic. The policeman got down from the two-wheeler. Thapar folded his hands and pleaded with the Nihang Sikhs to spare him, but they attacked him with swords. After hitting him repeatedly on the head, they fled on his two-wheeler, leaving Thapar in a pool of blood.

Tandon claimed that the Punjab Police had unmasked Thapar’s security detail. “Initially, two shooters were assigned to him, later both were withdrawn. Recently, another shooter was assigned to him and he accompanied him today, but the accused had come with full preparation,” he said.

Festive offer

Tandon further claimed that the Punjab Police were not serious about the “safety of those who speak about the welfare of Punjab and the country.”

“Those who sell drugs and support gangsters are given protection, while those who speak against them are not treated as human beings. Their protection is lifted despite the threat,” Thapar said.

Ludhiana police commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal said the three suspects have been identified. “They will be arrested soon,” Chahal said, adding that a complaint has been filed at Division Number 2 police station and the motive behind the attack will be clear once the arrests are made.

“The gunner on duty who accompanied Thapar was suspended for not responding in time,” the top police officer said.
