1 shooter wanted, 1 arrested in shooting at gas station

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Evansville police have arrested one of the men who police say fired shots outside an Evansville gas station.

As we reported, it happened early Sunday morning at the On the Fly gas station on the corner of Covert and South Green River Road.

Three people were hit.

According to police, 32-year-old Luther Lawton Jr. is one of the two shooters seen on the surveillance video.

They say the first shooter, who was not arrested, fired the shots that hit a teenager in the head and a man in the chest.

The teenager was taken to a hospital outside Evansville with serious injuries.

According to police, the man’s injuries are not life-threatening.

They say Lawton fired the shot that hit a woman in the leg.

He is charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon.

According to police, a large crowd of about 300 people gathered in a nearby parking lot shortly before the shooting.
