Two people dead after shooting at Virginia gym

According to police, two people were killed in a shooting at a gym in Virginia.

According to Alexandria police, officers responded to the shooting at OneLife Fitness, a gym and health club in southwest Alexandria, around 4 p.m. on Saturday. Two people, including the suspected shooter, initially suffered life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital, police said.

Both the male victim and the suspected shooter were pronounced dead by police Saturday evening. OneLife Fitness said neither man was an employee of the gym.

According to local news outlets, about 60 people were in the building at the time of the shooting and fled through the front and back exits.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred at our Alexandria location on Saturday. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those affected,” OneLife Fitness said in a statement.

The cause of death of both men is being investigated by the coroner, police said. The agency did not initially respond to a request for comment on the cause of the shooting.

The shooting is being investigated by Alexandria police.
