Congress criticizes district leaders over increasing anti-Semitic incidents in high schools

Lisa Desjardins:

This came after pro-Palestinian protests with anti-Semitic chants or threats took place at some high schools. In November, for example, students at Hillcrest High School in New York occupied the halls, shouting and searching for a Jewish teacher who had posted a pro-Israel photo.

New York Mayor Eric Adams condemned the incident. Big Apple School Superintendent David Banks said today his department is taking this and other incidents seriously.

David Banks, Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education: We have suspended at least 30 students. We have the NYPD involved when hate crimes are committed. And we have retrained all 1,600 school leaders on our disciplinary code to ensure it is properly enforced.
