Four Italians could be banned before the match against Croatia

Four Italian players face a ban ahead of the final group match against Croatia at EURO 2024.

Which Italian players are at risk of being banned?

Riccardo Calafiori and Lorenzo Pellegrini each received a yellow card in the 2-1 opening win against Albania, while Gianluigi Donnarumma and Bryan Cristante were shown yellow cards in the 1-0 defeat to Spain on Thursday evening.

If any of these four players receives another yellow card in the final group match against Croatia, they would be suspended for the round of 16 if Italy qualify.

If Italy qualifies for the knockout round, these four players are also at risk of being suspended for the round of 16. The list of yellow cards will be deleted after the quarter-finals.

The situation is similar with direct red cards. At EURO 2024, a one-match suspension is the usual punishment for players sent off. However, if the foul is deemed “dangerous”, UEFA can decide to increase the punishment.

That’s what happened to Scottish defender Ryan Porteous in the opening game against Germany. He ended up receiving a two-match ban for his foul on Germany captain Ilkay Gündogan.
