Illinois Leaks | Warrick County Health Department investigation leads to another arrest –

Warrick County, Indiana (ECWD) –

We have previously reported on the arrests of the animal control officers and all county commissioners of Warrick County, Indiana (Here). Now there also seem to have been problems within the district health department, which have led to additional costs.

An investigation by the Indiana State Police has led to another arrest in Warrick County.

On December 26, 2023, the Warrick County Commissioners publicly announced that Marlin Weisheit, 72, of Boonville, was appointed interim administrator of the Warrick County Health Department. Four days earlier, a contract was signed between the Warrick County Commissioners and Weisheit agreeing that Weisheit is an independent contractor and not an agent of Warrick County or an employee of the county. Under Indiana law, the Warrick County Health Officer is responsible for appointing the health department administrator.

Sergeant and Detective Brock Werne of the Indiana State Police announced that Health Administrator Weisheit had denied the position of Administrator of the Department of Health between December 26, 2023 and April 15, 2024.

The Warrick County Health Administrator formally approved Weisheit’s hiring on April 16, 2024, and the Commissioners approved his appointment at a public meeting. Weisheit’s first day of work as a county employee with the Warrick County Health Department was April 23, 2024. According to Detective Werne, billings for hours worked by Weisheit between January 2 and February 29, 2024, totaling $9,600, were paid from Health Department funds without the Health Administrator’s knowledge or approval. Between April 26 and May 2, Weisheit allegedly used the Health Administrator’s stamp without the Health Administrator’s approval or authority to transfer funds within the Health Department’s budget to pay for a lease with Liberty Concepts, INC, Boonville. The investigation determined that the Health Administrator would not approve payments from the Health Department to Liberty because the contract was between the Commissioners and Liberty Concepts, INC.

After reviewing this investigation, Perry County Special Prosecutor Samantha Hurst filed charges against Weisheit. At approximately 3:55 p.m. EST, Indiana State Police arrested Weisheit at the Warrick County Jail without incident. Weisheit was released after posting bail.

All inquiries regarding this investigation should be directed to the Perry County District Attorney’s Office.
