Schoolgirl gang-raped on her way home from school in Assam

There is a huge uproar in an Assam town after a Class 9 student was allegedly gang-raped on Saturday. She was allegedly raped by five men when she was returning home from her coaching classes in Majbat.

The accused allegedly took the teenager on their bicycle after promising to take her home. However, they took her to a brick kiln where they took turns to rape her.

Angry residents set fire to the house of one of the accused today. Shortly afterwards, paramilitary forces were deployed in the area.

The police have arrested all the accused and the Director General of Police has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.
