SIU closes Thunder Bay police investigation

The pursuit lasted about four and a half minutes and covered a distance of about seven kilometers.

THUNDER BAY – The Special Investigations Unit has closed its investigation into a collision between an unmarked vehicle and a police vehicle in Thunder Bay in February.

On February 29, an officer from the Thunder Bay Police Service pursued the 31-year-old driver of an unmarked vehicle.

The pursuit lasted about four and a half minutes and covered a distance of about seven kilometers.

The pursuit ended when the vehicles collided at the south end of Neebing Avenue.

The man was arrested and taken to hospital.

Based on the preliminary investigation, which included a review of the man’s medical records, SIU Director Joseph Martino was convinced that the investigation should be closed.

The medical examination revealed no broken bones or other serious injuries.

Because there was insufficient evidence of serious injury within the meaning of the SIU’s statutory mandate, the case file was closed.
