Justin Timberlake’s lawyer issues statement after star’s arrest for alleged drunk driving in Sag Harbor – NBC New York

A lawyer for Justin Timberlake has issued a statement regarding the pop star’s arrest on Long Island for alleged drunk driving after he repeatedly refused to take a chemical test during a traffic stop by police.

“I look forward to vigorously defending Mr. Timberlake against these allegations,” said attorney Edward Burke Jr.

An officer noticed the gray BMW with Florida plates that Timberlake was driving twice failing to stay on the right side of the road in Sag Harbor just before 1 a.m. Tuesday, the criminal complaint says. He also allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign on Madison Street at Jermain Avenue before having trouble staying on his side of the road.

After seeing him swerve twice, the police stopped the vehicle.

The officer who pulled him over said the so-called “Prince of Pop” appeared to be drunk, with bloodshot, glassy eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. The complaint says Timberlake was unsteady and spoke slowly; he also performed poorly on sobriety tests. They said he also was unable to concentrate on speaking to police while searching for his vehicle registration.

“I drank a martini and followed my friends home,” Timberlake reportedly told officers.

Officers transported him to the Sag Village Police Department for processing, where he refused to submit to a chemical test to determine his blood alcohol content three times over the course of approximately 40 minutes, according to the complaint.

“No, I am not taking a chemical test,” Timberlake said, according to the complaint. The singer repeated twice: “I refuse.”

He was then taken to East Hampton Police Headquarters and held overnight until his arraignment Tuesday morning. Timberlake was released on bail after the hearing. Timberlake pleaded not guilty in court and was recalled on July 26, officials said.

On Wednesday, Timberlake’s lawyer released a statement about the arrest.

“I will have much to say in due course, but am currently awaiting the full findings from the prosecution,” Burke Jr. said.

The singer himself has not commented on the incident. There was also no further comment from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

According to E!, Timberlake’s wife Jessica Biel was spotted back on the set of “The Better Sister” in Manhattan just hours after his arrest.

Jessica Biel beamed on set after her husband Justin Timberlake was arrested for drunk driving in the Hamptons. Biel was spotted filming her upcoming Prime Video series ‘The Better Sister’ in New York City.

Police also recorded the incident using body and dashboard cameras, but the footage has not been released.

Before his arrest, Timberlake was leaving the American Hotel on Main Street, a popular spot in Sag Harbor. Famous singer Billy Joel lives in town and was spotted by an NBC news crew at the hotel and restaurant on Tuesday.

“I don’t know him really well, so I have no comment,” Joel said when asked about Timberlake’s encounter with police.

“Judge not, lest you be judged,” Joel added.

The arrest came as Timberlake embarks on his first world tour in nearly six years. The pop icon is scheduled to perform at Madison Square Garden in New York next week on June 25 and 26.

Representatives from Madison Square Garden Entertainment referred questions to Timberlake’s representatives.

Sag Harbor is a coastal village in the Hamptons, about 100 miles from New York City. In the summer, it is a popular meeting place for wealthy visitors.
