4-year-old dies after being hit by a truck in Walton County

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Walton County officials are investigating a crash that killed a four-year-old Tuesday afternoon.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. on a main street in Miramar Beach.

A Florida Highway Patrol report says it was a truck-versus-pedestrian accident at Scenic Gulf Drive and Highway 98.

According to the report, a 65-year-old man from Defuniak Springs turned onto Highway 98 from Scenic Gulf Drive.

At that time, a 40-year-old man crossed the street on a bicycle and pulled a child behind him in a cart.

Cyclists and trucks collided at the intersection.

The cyclist suffered minor injuries and the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both roads were closed while investigators worked on the case. They are open again.
