MORRISTOWN – The National Weather Service office in Morristown, TN, issued an outlook for hazardous weather conditions for portions of southwestern North Carolina, eastern Tennessee and southwestern Virginia on Wednesday, May 8.

An outbreak of severe weather is becoming increasingly likely across much of the Mid-South, extending into our region from late afternoon into this evening. All severe hazards are expected, including widespread damaging winds, very large hail that may be the size of a golf ball or larger, and tornadoes of some severe intensity. The highest tornado threat is expected along and west of Interstate 75.

Additionally, heavy rainfall is expected due to several showers and storms. Scattered to possibly numerous flooding is likely, with the greatest risk along and west of Interstate 75. This increased danger is expected to be most pronounced during the evening hours into early Thursday morning.

Residents in affected areas are advised to stay informed about weather updates and heed all warnings and advisories from local authorities. Safety precautions should be taken to reduce the risks associated with severe weather.
