Electric shock in whirlpool: US tourist killed, another injured in whirlpool incident at Mexican resort

PUERTO PENASCO, Mexico — Two American tourists from Texas were electrocuted in a hot tub at a resort in Mexico. One was killed and the other was injured.

Authorities are currently investigating the difficult video that captured the tragic incident and the desperate attempt to help them.

Dramatic video showing the moment two Americans were believed to have been electrocuted in a hot tub at a Mexican resort. Bystanders screamed for help as one person was carried to safety. Amid the chaos on the pool deck, someone can also be seen performing CPR.

The Sonora Attorney General said he was investigating the incident and said 43-year-old Jorge was killed and 35-year-old Lizeth was injured. In accordance with regulations, only the victims’ first names were used.

Sources told ABC News that they were a couple from El Paso, Texas.

“The tragic incident occurred Tuesday evening at the Sonoran Sea Resort near Puerto Peñasco,” officials said.

The Attorney General added that a forensic analysis is being conducted to determine the cause of the power outage.

ABC News has repeatedly asked the resort for comment but has not received a response.

If you receive an electric shock in a swimming pool or hot tub, experts advise you to get out of the water immediately and not to touch any metal parts or ladders.
