EAM Jaishankar speaks with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Wednesday evening spoke to his Kuwaiti counterpart Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya and urged him to ensure speedy repatriation of the remains of those killed in a devastating fire in the Mangaf region of southern Kuwait.

About 40 Indians died and more than 50 were injured in the fire in a building that housed about 195 migrant workers, officials said.

“I spoke to Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya about the fire tragedy in Kuwait. I was informed about the efforts being made by the Kuwaiti authorities in this regard. I was assured that the incident will be fully investigated and those responsible will be brought to justice,” Jaishankar said on “X”.

“He called for the speedy repatriation of the remains of those who lost their lives. He stressed that the injured were receiving the necessary medical care,” he said.

“We will review the situation after MoS @KVSinghMPGonda reaches Kuwait tomorrow,” he said.

Foreign Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh has travelled to Kuwait urgently on the instructions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, primarily to oversee the assistance provided to Indians injured in the fire and to ensure the speedy repatriation of the remains of those killed.
