Heat continues, low chance of rain

Temperatures remain above normal, but humidity has dropped a bit recently, causing the heat index, or perceived temperature, to be a bit lower. Instead of heat index readings between 110° and 118°, readings have generally been in the 100° and 105° range. Some improvement, but still very hot. Remember, this type of heat can still kill. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and don’t overdo your outdoor activities. Even simple yard work that would normally take an hour can take twice as long. Be sure to take frequent breaks indoors and drink plenty of water. We’ve got a long summer ahead of us!

Temperatures are still expected to remain above normal next week, but some changes early in the week may contribute to slightly lower temperatures. The heat dome in the sky will retreat a bit on Monday. This will allow a weak front to settle over North Texas on Monday. The front should be close enough to send a few showers or thunderstorms our way from the north. The Hill Country will be most likely to see those showers and thunderstorms, while the rest of the region will likely miss out. Rain is most likely late Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday night. Most of us won’t see any rain, but the places that do experience it will most likely get less than a quarter inch of rain.

The heat dome over Texas is expected to intensify during the second half of next week. Temperatures are expected to rise slightly while the chance of rain drops to zero. Right after the 7-day forecast, the National Weather Service’s 8- to 14-day forecast shows warmer than normal temperatures and slightly wetter than normal precipitation.
