Guntersville daycare closes after investigation into child abuse allegations | News

Children's Korner Daycare Guntersville

We learn of allegations against a daycare center in Guntersville. The Korner daycare center has closed its doors. On Tuesday, the Marshall County District Attorney announced that he had opened an investigation into the daycare after a former employee alerted them to the allegations.

The Kids Korner daycare center is located at the Guntersville First Methodist Church. Marshall County Prosecutor Jennifer Bray says their investigation uncovered evidence that two current employees were “violating Alabama law when dealing with children.” An arrest warrant for harassment was issued against one of these employees on Tuesday.

The Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office says they have notified parents whose children had direct interactions with the employees affected by the allegations about how they can obtain warrants for their arrest if necessary.

Prosecutor Jennifer Bray said, “Your investigation uncovered prior violations of Alabama’s mandatory reporting law, but unfortunately, these incidents were subject to a statute of limitations.” The DA’s office said it also identified concerns about teacher-child ratios and the suitability of certain employees have. They say if there is evidence that a child has been abused, they have already contacted the parents.

The Marshall County District Attorney’s Office says they understand this will undoubtedly have a serious impact on many families in the community, including their own employees whose children attended Kids Korner.
