One dead in overnight house fire in Yerington | News

A fire at a home in Yerington late Monday evening left one person dead and one seriously injured.

According to a release from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, it happened on Spence Lane in Yerington just before 11:50 p.m.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered the home was fully engulfed in flames.

A woman and two children escaped the fire uninjured, while a man suffered serious burns and was taken to hospital by Careflight. Another woman was still in the home when first responders arrived.

When the fire was extinguished, the remains of that woman, identified as 36-year-old Jessica Canterbury of Yerington, were found inside the home.

The Yerington/Mason Valley Fire Department, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Southern Command Patrol Division and Yerington Police responded to the fire.

Investigators from the Nevada Department of Public Safety and the State Fire Marshall’s Office responded to investigate the cause of the fire.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division is conducting the death investigation with assistance from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Investigation Division.
