‘My heart hurts’: Aunt of cyclist killed in Hallandale Beach hit-and-run speaks out amid search for driver – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) – A grieving family member is sharing his pain a day after a man was struck and killed by a speeding driver in Hallandale Beach, police said.

Speaking to 7News on Saturday, Norma Morris said she was looking for answers following the car crash in which she lost her nephew.

“I don’t know, I’m so confused,” she said, unable to hold back her tears.

According to Hallandale Beach police, Morris’ nephew, 45-year-old Ricardo Gray, was struck and killed by a car Friday morning.

“He was a very, very nice guy, my nephew,” Morris said. “When he smiled, it was just radiant.”

Investigators said the driver responsible drove away, leaving Gray to die.

Investigators said the accident occurred between 4 and 5 a.m. on South Federal Highway, right next to Hallandale Beach City Hall, as Gray was riding his bike to work at Gulfstream Park.

However, police said they would not find the victim until 8 a.m. and that he would already be dead by then.

“If the person who hit him had stayed at the scene and rendered aid, he would probably still be alive,” Morris said.

The impact was so violent that Gray’s bike broke in half. Police documented the impact with yellow markings.

Detectives said they were looking for a black car with damage to the front and/or passenger side.

Gray’s aunt wonders how a person can be so cruel. She hopes that someone saw something and will say something.

“You’re just leaving him there like a dog? You don’t think he has a family that’s going to miss him? Who’s going to suffer? Because my heart is hurting right now,” she said. “It’s not fair. It’s just not fair.”

Police told the victim’s family that the car that hit him was dark in color, but did not release further details as the investigation is ongoing.
