12-year-old boy among four other teens arrested after girl ‘raped on playing fields’ in Newark

A 12-year-old boy is among four other youths arrested on suspicion of raping a young girl.

The victim alerted police following the incident on Yorke Drive in Newark, Notts on Saturday afternoon.

A 12-year-old boy, a 13-year-old boy and two 14-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of rape, Nottinghamshire Police said.

They were all released on bail and under strict conditions.

Four other teenagers, two aged 15 and two aged 16, were arrested earlier this week on suspicion of rape.

Police confirmed that all four were released on bail.

Detective Inspector Amy Revill of Nottinghamshire Police said: “We have made four further arrests in this case and our investigation continues to progress rapidly.”

“We continue to support the girl and her family with specially trained officers and are doing everything we can to clarify the exact incident.

“I would like to once again urge local residents and anyone with information to please contact us.

“Several people have reached out to help us with our requests, so thank you for your support.”

Inspector Charlotte Ellam, District Manager for Newark, added: “I understand the concern this incident has caused in our Newark community.

“But I want to make it clear that the team of investigators investigating this incident is working around the clock and we will find out exactly what happened.”

“We have been carrying out additional patrols in this area and will continue to do so, so if you have any concerns please speak to one of my officers.”

“We would also like to ask people to avoid speculation as we go through this process.

“We will keep you updated on the progress of our investigation.”
