Beccles rapist jailed for volunteering at Suffolk school

Ipswich Crown Court heard that Kevin Corrick attended the school for 10 months to deliver gardening products and mow lawns without telling anyone that he was banned from attending due to a sexual abuse protection order.

Corrick, 63, of Nightingale Court, Blyburgate, Beccles, admitted four counts of breaching a 2012 sexual harm prevention order after being sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping and sexually assaulting a schoolgirl and producing indecent images of children.

The violations related to his stay in an educational institution between March and December 2023 and his activity in a youth organization, although he was prohibited from doing so under the order.

He also admitted not telling authorities that he owned an Amazon tablet and a new bank card.

Sentencing him to 16 months in prison, Judge Emma Peters said sexual harm prevention orders had an important benefit in ensuring that people convicted of sexual offences had regulated arrangements for their lives after they were released from prison.

The court heard that Corrick had visited a school as a volunteer over a period of ten months, supplying the school with items and offering gardening services as part of the Man Shed community project.

When asked by police why he had not told anyone that he had a restraining order against him for sexual harassment, he said he did not want to lose his role.

He denied attending the school to gain access to children, but admitted to being sexually attracted to children.

He told police: “I can’t help what’s going on in my head.”

Claire Matthews, for Corrick, said her client had not had any unsupervised contact with children and his role was limited to delivering gardening products and mowing the lawn to the school through the Man Shed.

She said Corrick was released from prison in 2019 and has not reoffended since his release.

She said he realized he had done wrong and was remorseful.
