Hastings woman killed while crossing street, police say

HASTINGS, Nebraska (KSNB) – Hastings police are investigating after a woman was reportedly killed while crossing the street at the corner of West South Street and South Hastings Avenue Wednesday evening.

According to Hastings Police, an eastbound pickup truck driven by a 73-year-old Hastings man collided with a 71-year-old Hastings woman as she was crossing the street on a mobility scooter at around 6:15 p.m.

The woman was taken to Mary Lanning Healthcare, where she succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

HPD is investigating the accident with assistance from a Nebraska State Patrol accident reconstructionist. Police said drugs or alcohol are not suspected.

Hastings police have not yet determined the identities of those involved, but said they could do so as early as Friday or sometime next week.
