Mesa Police: Accident that killed 7-year-old was not a hit-and-run

According to Mesa police, a seven-year-old girl who was fatally struck by a pickup truck in a driveway on Thursday was not, as initially suspected, the victim of a hit-and-run accident.

They say the driver was simply unaware that he had hit the girl, so he drove past the accident scene and parked behind the multiplex building.

Mesa Detective Brandi Myers said the man called 911 when he saw the girl and her scooter.

“He had no idea he had done this until he parked behind the building and walked to the front and saw her lying in the driveway,” Myers said.

Police say the driver was neither impaired nor speeding, and no charges will be filed against him.
